The great visionary Late Shri Jethabhai V. Patel; an industrialist and technocrat, visualized the need of the day way back in 1979. He ensured that the educational hub Vallabh Vidyanagar and the Industrial zone Vitthal Udyognagar is well-equipped where the students from nearby villages can get the opportunity to learn and avail technical training. With this noble objective he established the GUJARAT AUDYOGIK VIKAS & VYAVASAYEEK TALIM TRUST. The Trust was registered on 11-5-1979 under Bombay Public Trust Act No. F / 177 / Anand and Societies Registration Act Guj / 149 / Anand.
The Premises consisting of eight rooms were rented from the Education Society, Karamsad that runs Sardar Patel High School. Sixty (60) students were admitted in the first batch of 1979 for Industrial Training consisting of Four Trades – Turner, Fitter, Welder and Machinist.
In the year 1980, the Trust took a decision to construct its own new and large building on the gifted land measuring 16,196 sq.mtrs. donated by Shri J. V. Patel, a partner of J. V. Patel & Co. to accommodate an increased intake in the existing Trades and also for future expansion. The foundation stone was laid down by Shri Sumant J. Patel in October 1980.
The modern building was inaugurated on 09th November 1983 the LABH PANCHAM DAY by the then Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Madhavsinhji Solanki.
All the required machinery and equipment including lathes, planers, shapers, milling machines, grinding machines, electric and gas welding sets, welding generators, transformers, supporting hand tools and precision measuring instruments were donated and installed by GMM, as part of its Rural Development programme.
The institute has always had qualified and experienced instructors in their respective trades as its faculty.
Currently, 303 students are admitted every year in ITI.
